Vintage Tea Dance

vintage-tea-dance

The West End Festival is fast approaching and Cushion & Cake have planned a few little events as part of this year’s programme. We’re really excited to be hosting a vintage style tea dance on Sunday 22nd June from 2pm.

We have afternoon tea, music and professional dance teachers to teach you some simple dances such as the social foxtrot . There will be activities for little ones, stalls of vintage and handmade goodies and a stylist to do your hair and or/make up for the occasion.

The event will take place in the little Overnewton Centre in Yorkhill. It is just round the corner form the tearoom so super easy to find. It will be decorated in bunting, lots of bunting! I’d better get making…

Tickets for this event including afternoon tea are now sold out. You can still however purchase an ENTRY ONLY ticket where you can pop in, have a dance and buy some cake and lemonade from our stall.  An e ticket will be emailed to you for you to print at home.

going glamping. again!

Friday, 11 April 2014

I can’t believe it is almost Easter. The year has gotten off to a very busy start for Cushion & Cake and I’ve noticed a definite change this year, my third year in business as a tearoom incidentally with lots more customers, getting busier every day. When work just keeps coming its hard to remember to take proper breaks. I thought I was really aware of when I needed to slow down but I’ve recently lost sight of this and have worked long hours and often 6 day weeks… so time for a treat. A bit of R&R and I found a great “glamping” site in Dumfries  Galloway. This is my second “glamping’ trip, the first being a stay in Roulotte Retreat in the Borders in 2012.

I can only manage an overnight at the moment so at the end of April, I’m going to stay in a little “pod” on Gorsebank Farm.

The pod is a simple little structure with beds inside, electricity and a stove. Some of the comforts your often miss with camping. What’s more is these little pods come with a hot tub! I plan to sit in the hot tub allllllllll evening to rest my tired legs after running around the tearoom.

I often look forward to having nothing to do. it is so rare that you can completely switch off from your work, particularly when you are self employed. I’ll gather up my favourite magazines, some music, some tasty treats, a cosy blanket with the fire pit roaring and I’ll be set for a restful night glamping.
